Gerson Hernandez

CASE STUDY : Working to flip back a once Republican District.

BACKGROUND :

Gerson Hernandez, a first time Republican Texas House of Representatives candidate, ran for TEXAS HD 105. Hernandez, was facing off in the general election, Democrat, Terry Meza who in 2018 was able to unseat the incumbent Republican, Rodney Anderson. Anderson had held that seat from 2016. Terry had challenged Anderson in 2016, but came up short of the victory.

The Challenge :

Hernandez had many obstacles to overcome. He had a low Name ID in the district and the recent COVID -19 lockdowns hampered his block walking and fundraising efforts. His opponent, Meza was well funded and backed by well known Democrats including former US president Barack Obama, and Eric Holder, former US Attorney General.Terry had also significantly out raised Hernandez by almost 3 to 1.

The Plan :

Was to focus on Hernandez’s history in helping the community of Irving and Grand Prairie. He serves as the Executive Director of a Non Profit organization that focuses on food distribution. Need to build Hernandez’s NAME ID in a short period of time using significantly less money than his opponent had.

The Solutions :

Mail: Multiple mailers sent to GOP base for increased name recognition. While contrast pieces were sent to independent voters  and democratic voters that focused on his community service.

Online Ads: Facebook ads placed a pivotal role, as had almost 4,000 Likes in under 6 months with only spending $3,400. Also had a viral campaign video that reached more than 20,000 FB viewers.

The Results: Hernandez garnished over 24,000 votes and came within striking distance of a well funded incumbent opponent.
